What is the LEAD program?
LEAD stands for Leading, Educating, and Developing. It's a one-week leadership training program for which an application is required.
Who is the LEAD program for?
The LEAD program is designed for local government managers and anyone who wants to enhance their organizations or communities through improved leadership.
Where does the LEAD program take place?
The classes take place in Charlottesville, Virginia at the University of Virginia's Darden School of Business Administration. Program tuition covers the costs of accommodations checking in the Saturday night of the program and checking out the Friday of the program. Check your specific LEAD class date for information about lodging accommodations.

What are the class sizes?
Class Sizes are typically between 38 - 42.
What accommodations are provided?
We provide single-occupancy sleeping rooms, with all the amenities of a first class hotel room. Participants dine together in an executive dining room.
Are meals provided?
Yes, most meals are provided. Meals are provided from Saturday dinner through Friday lunch, with the exception of dinner on Thursday.

Applications, Payment, and Fees
How much does the program cost?
The LEAD 2020 fee is $4,650. This includes lodging and most meals, and instructional materials. A 10% discount is available for members of the Virginia Institute of Government.
When is the application deadline?
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and you are encouraged to submit your application as soon as possible with your first and second date choices. Programs fill up quickly and it is possible you will be placed on a waiting list. Our preference is to receive applications 90 days prior to the start of a program. When are payments due?
Payment in full is due one month before the start of the program.
I think I may know an alumna/alumnus of this program, or the SEI program. Where may I find program alumni?
Both the LEAD program and SEI keep a database of alumni.
Refunds and Cancellations
I can no longer go. Can I get a refund?
A cancellation received prior to two weeks before the start of the program is assessed a 50% fee. No refunds are offered after the start of the program.
Can I send someone in my place so I don't suffer the cancellation penalty?
Acceptable substitution may be made up to 2 weeks before the start of the program.
Can I bring a guest or spouse?
Social events are an integral component of the learning experience. This makes it difficult for participants to share time with accompanying personal guests/spouses.
